Year 1

Our academic year is split into 3 semesters. You will study:

  • 2 compulsory modules in semester 1
  • 2 compulsory modules in semester 2
  • 1 compulsory research modules across semesters 1, 2 and 3

Compulsory module

On this module you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to explore and implement different leadership and strategy theories. Your unique approach to leadership will be informed by critical assessments and evaluations of contemporary strategic practices. These example methods are designed to stimulate your innovation and help you create connections between leadership and strategy across a mix of setting and situations.

Compulsory module

This module is an exploration of the social enterprise infrastructure and ecosystem within the UK. Using relevant and contemporary examples, you will investigate the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how they are to different business environments. You will evaluate available resources and the surrounding environment in order to develop a sustainable social business model. There will be an opportunity to create a prototype and validate an effective and relevant Minimum Viable Product (MVP) for your social enterprise.

Compulsory module

Workforce management in an increasingly digital environment is rapidly evolving. On this module, you will learn how to apply your every-advancing skills to this environment, becoming a forward thinking professional who considers new technologies, changing demographics, and the need for ethical and inclusive practices. Crucially, you will develop strategies for workforce management to be applied in disruptive situations and crises. The skills you will develop include coaching to engage and empower, facilitate professional growth and improve the performance of employees.

Compulsory module

Business, environmental and societal challenges are increasingly connected across regional and global contexts. On this module, you will gain the knowledge to deal with challenges that come from the relationship between businesses and the societies they function in. You will seek to answer questions such as:

  • What are the current opportunities and challenges confronted by contemporary businesses?
  • How can businesses become more effective in addressing pressing social concerns?
  • How can resources be procured and allocated efficiently and responsibly?

Compulsory module

This module runs throughout the entire course as in an opportunity for you to showcase all of the skills, knowledge and abilities you have gathered during your study. It is also a great opportunity for self reflection. As part of this module you will complete a Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness (DISC) personal assessment. This will act as a guide as you develop your leadership and coaching style. To demonstrate what you have learned, in addition to written assessments, you will engage in a coaching simulation exercise. Here you will apply your coaching techniques to a workplace environment and the workers in it.

All of your modules will be delivered using a variety of different teaching sessions. This includes:

1 to 1 time can be booked through our tutorial booker system.

You will also have regular individual tutorial sessions with your academic tutors to support your learning. There are opportunities to gain work experience through modules which take your learning beyond the classroom and into the city.

Assessment

We use a wide variety of assessment types, which help you to develop skills relevant to the workplace. This includes:
