Summer schools

We run residential summer schools for Year 10 and Year 12 students. All our residentials are completely free to attend and accommodation, food and transport are included.

We believe in opening the opportunities of education to everyone. University can be life changing but that does not mean it has to be a leap into the unknown.

If your students are unsure about going to university or what they want to study, attending a residential could help them with their decisions.

Year 10 Summer School

We invite schools to attend our annual Year 10 Summer School. Students stay in university accommodation for 2 nights and 3 days and take part in the following activities:

• Taster lectures with university academics
• Social activities and sport
• Free time in York city centre

It's a great way to get a taster of university life and find out what York St John University has to offer.

Year 12 Summer School - Discover YSJ

Our Year 12 residential is a 4 day experience held on our campus in York. It's an opportunity for students to discover university life, attend taster lectures and find out more about higher education.

As part of our residential students choose an academic strand in an area of interest. There are multiple sessions exploring the chosen strand to experience how a student learns at university.

Students will stay in university accommodation. This is just a short walk from the main campus and gives a sense of what it would actually be like to be a university student living away from home.

University life is not just about studying and our residential is no different. Alongside the academic sessions we also host lots of different social activities. Past activities have included:

• Sport and societies taster sessions
• Students' Union quiz night
• Exploring historic York
• Evening BBQ
• York Dungeons
• Karaoke
